Educational Scholarship
Education
We are passionate advocates for education, recognising it as the key to unlocking opportunities and transforming lives. Every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, deserves access to quality learning experiences that empower them to build a brighter future.

Through our Scholarship Programs, school sponsorships and educational initiatives, we strive to remove barriers that hinder learning. GMF provides full coverage of tuition and external exams fees and supplies all essential school materials. We ensure that young minds have the resources they need to succeed.

By investing in education today, we are shaping a generation that will drive positive change for years to come.

2024: Approximate Annual fees: $ 50-150
GMF helps widows and other vulnerable women who struggle to provide even the most basic necessities, making it difficult for their children to focus on education. True empowerment comes from not just educating the next generation but also equipping the mothers with the means to stand on their own two feet.
This led us to introduce the Economic Empowerment Project giving out micro-loans, providing business training and mentoring over a period of 12 months—small but life-changing financial boosts that allow widows to start or expand small businesses, gain financial independence and create stable homes for their children. By lifting these women out of economic hardship, we are not only securing their futures but also ensuring that their children can pursue education without the burden of financial instability.
It is a cycle of empowerment that strengthens families, uplifts communities and builds a foundation for lasting change.

Boreholes
Development
Our commitment to community development has taken many forms, one of the most impactful being access to fresh, running water. By providing clean water through Hand-pumped Boreholes, we have alleviated the burden of young children walking miles with heavy buckets on their heads.
These boreholes have revitalised entire communities—improving health, reducing waterborne diseases and providing water for humans and livestock.
In the past, open wells in rural areas posed significant risks, including the dangers of children and animals falling in, stagnant water breeding harmful germs and water levels running dry during months of extreme heat.

2024: Approximate cost per borehole: $ 500
For individuals living with physical disabilities—whether they have twisted, deformed legs from early Polio virus infections, a single limb, or no limbs at all—mobility is often a daily struggle. Many arrive at our doors crawling on the ground, their hands and arms bearing the weight their legs cannot. The challenges they face extend beyond physical limitations; they endure social stigma, isolation and a loss of dignity simply because they lack the means to move independently.

But that changes the moment they receive one of our specially designed Tricycles. These tricycles are more than just a mode of transport—they are a symbol of freedom, empowerment, and restored dignity. With newfound mobility, these individuals leave us sitting tall, upright, and confident, no longer bound to the ground but moving forward with pride.
Now, they can navigate their communities with ease, access education, pursue employment and participate fully in society. A simple gift of mobility transforms lives, turning despair into hope and dependence into independence.

2024: Approximate costs per tricycle: $ 60

Ramadan Feeding
Home
During the holy month of Ramadan, we launch our Ramadan Food Sharing Program—a lifeline for those who struggle to secure even a single meal. Fasting is a test of endurance, but for many facing economic hardships, the real challenge is not knowing if they will have anything to break their fast with at all. Our initiative ensures that individuals and families receive nutritious meals, allowing them to end their fast with the ingredients to prepare a nourishing meal.

GMF reaches deep into remote and rural areas—places where common food relief rarely arrives. These forgotten communities, often overlooked, face even greater hardships, with little to no access to regular food support. By extending our reach, we deliver essential food packs to those who need them most.
Beyond filling stomachs, this program fuels the spirit of generosity and unity, reminding us that Ramadan is not just about fasting—it is about compassion, shared humanity and the power of giving.

Ramadan 2024: Approximate cost per Sack of Dry Food for 1 month for 6 ppl: $ 40

As the seasons change and the world experiences its colder months, Gatan Marayu Foundation steps forward with compassion through our Blanket Drive. This initiative, made possible by the generous donations and unwavering support of our sponsors and contributors, has a singular mission—to provide warmth, comfort and security to those who need it most.

In many regions we serve, the arrival of the Harmattan season transforms the environment into an unforgiving landscape. The relentless Sahara winds whip across the land, carrying fine dust and sand, veiling the sun in a thick, hazy shroud. Daylight becomes dim and temperatures plummet drastically as night falls, making the cold especially bone-chilling for those without proper shelter or clothing.
For the homeless, the elderly and vulnerable families, this season is more than an inconvenience—it is a battle for survival. Without protection against the harsh elements, many suffer from respiratory issues and hypothermia.. Our Blanket Distribution ensures that those most at risk receive the warmth they desperately need, offering not just physical relief, but also the reassurance that they are not forgotten.

2024: Approximate cost per Blanket: $ 5
